Meditation
Mental Processes <- -> Physical Health
At FWSI, we work with the mind-body connection.
We consider meditation to be one of the precursors to what is now more comprehensively called psychoneuroimmunology.
Psychoneuroimmunology explores the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the body.
In other words, the ways in which people behave, think, and feel have profound effects on body physiology.
Work done on meditation, the relaxation response, and other techniques shows that when it comes to using their nervous systems, humans have at their disposal a vastly more sophisticated range of choices than many think possible. What we call “higher neurology lab 101” starts with meditation, which is a simple neurological tool to start reversing the flow of attention from inside out to outside in. Such practice over time allows for an enhanced level of integrated neurological function. This translates in overall higher performance and thus a biological distancing from disease.
FWSI teaches a variety of meditation techniques based on patient interest, preference, and suitability.
